COMPOSTING DO’S AND DON’TS
DO ADD:
Vegetable and fruit scraps (raw or cooked without oil, dairy & meat; don’t forget to remove any produce stickers!)
Coffee grounds/ tea bags and unbleached paper coffee filters
Corrugated cardboard (wet/damp boxes break down more easily)
Trimmings from perennials and annuals
Grass clippings
Annual weeds that haven't set seed
Eggshells
Seaweed
Nut shells
Fall leaves and pine needles
Twigs, mulch, chipped tree branches and bark
Sawdust (only from non-pressure-treated wood)
Paper (newspaper, writing/printer paper, plates, napkins, coffee filters)
Cotton fabric
Corn husks and stalks
Straw, hay
Chop up watermelon rinds, avocado peels and any other large scraps! This helps them to break down more quickly.
DON’T ADD:
Meat, fish scraps, bones
Dairy products, including cheese
Fats, grease, oil or cooked foods with oil, dairy and meat
Produce stickers
Cat or dog feces, kitty litter
Colored or glossy paper
Sawdust from pressure-treated plywood or lumber
Coal, charcoal ashes
Diseased or insect-infested houseplants or soil
Non Compostable materials (plastics, metals, glass, etc.)
COMPOSTING DROP-OFF INSTRUCTIONS
In-Season Drop Off Hours: Sundays: 2-4 pm, Wednesdays & Saturdays: 9 am -10 am
Dump your scraps in Bin 1.
Take 3 times the amount of browns from the Brown Bin and add to Bin 1.
Mix and chop together with the shovel provided. Turn the pile to help aerate the compost.
Please note! - Registered members can now stop by during drop-off hours for a quick training session. Trained members will be able to access the bins outside of manned drop-off hours.
Please donate dead or dry leaves to our Brown Bin!
Carbon (Browns) + Nitrogen (Greens) + Water + Oxygen = Compost!
